Marshall Memo: Fall Clean Up; a Busy Saturday; Model Trains; and Ag Day – Wheeling Intelligencer

There will be eight Marshall County Fall Dumpster Clean-Up locations, the first of which will be in two weeks.

In addition there will be a one-day E-Recycle clean-up which will be on Oct. 1 at the John Marshall High School North Parking Lot.

All Marshall County residents will be welcome to use any of the sites.

The locations and dates are:

– Benwood — City Maintenance Garage, Sept. 30 and Oct . 1.

– McMechen — Former Football Field, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

– Glen Dale — City Garage, Oct. 14-15.

– Moundsville — 12th Street entrance to Valley Fork Park, Oct. 14-15.

– Cameron — The Cameron Elementary School, Oct. 22.

– Roberts Ridge — VFD Headquarters, Oct. 22.

– Sherrard — Hilltop Elementary School, Oct. 29.

– Limestone — VFD Headquarters on U.S. 250, Oct. 29.

The hours at all sites will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

There will be no provisions at any of the locations to accept tires, white goods, scrap metal, car parts, fuels, hazardous chemicals/materials or household trash.

As to the E-Recycle, it too will be from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., (Oct. 1) to accept car and light truck tires (17 inch and smaller), white goods, electronics, computers, air conditioners, humidifiers, and dehumidifiers.

No televisions will be accepted.

The services will be provided for residential use and are not intended for businesses. For additional information about the clean-ups contact the Marshall County Solid Waste Authority at 304-780-9866.

Those bringing items to either services should be prepared to show proof of Marshall County residence.

The Greater Cameron Area Landmarks Commission will host Pottery Day 2022 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the B&O Freight Depot.

All are invited to display, sell or trade their Cameron Clay Pottery Products.

Tables will be $10 to sell and free to display.

Cameron Landmark train enthusiasts are in need of people who have or like to build or display model trains.

Several people are planning to build an HO scale model B&O railroad depicting Cameron and the surrounding area.

Those who might be interested in trains are asked to call 304-780-6264 for meeting information.

The monthly Food Give-Away in Cameron will take place from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the Blue & Gold Christian Center.

The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a Tailgate Party at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the VUE Bar and Grill, with 5 p.m. being the pregame of the WVU vs. Virginia Tech football game. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.

A few weeks ago it was mentioned that Sept. 17 (today) would be a day at which there would be numerous special events in Marshall County.

Well, the four events have increased by at least one, that being an indoor sale at the Strand Theatre in Moundville.

Probably the one attraction that will draw the largest is that of the Marshall County Historical Society’s “World War II History Day,” as it will be running from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
