To vacation in the Pocono Mountains during the summertime is to retreat to a serene, idyllic sanctuary free of seemingly all of life’s pressures. Now deep into its own summertime, NASCAR heads for these very same mountains — but the drivers are bringing their stressors and pressures with them.

The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Pocono Raceway this weekend for the M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400, a race which takes place against the backdrop of an intense race for the NASCAR Playoffs. After winning at New Hampshire last week, Christopher Bell became the 14th driver to earn a spot on the playoff grid, meaning that there are just two spots remaining for drivers to make the playoffs on points.

That’s trouble for Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr., both of whom are now on the playoff bubble despite being in the top five in points. The good news is, both Blaney and Truex are past Pocono winners. The bad news is, so are drivers below the cut line like Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski, and there’s a whole host of others looking to use the Tricky Triangle to get on the playoff grid as well.

The M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 begins at 3 p.m. ET, with television coverage on USA Network and streaming on fuboTV (try for free).
