NASCAR Cup Series at Richmond: Live updates, highlights, results for the Federated Auto Parts 400 – CBS Sports

August 14, 2022 by No Comments

With three races left in the regular season, just a trio of opportunities remain for a driver to get on the NASCAR Cup Series playoff grid with a win: They can do it through fast speeds at the superspeedway of Daytona, through finesse at the road course of Watkins Glen — or by force on a short track this weekend.

The Cup Series makes its return trip to Richmond Raceway for the Federated Auto Parts 400, the track’s second race of the 2022 season. In the springtime, Denny Hamlin played a late-race tire strategy perfectly, running down William Byron in the final laps and then holding off Kevin Harvick to earn his first win of the year.

After this spring’s narrow miss, Harvick finally ended his winless streak last week at Michigan, becoming the 15th winner of the season and putting a tremendous amount of pressure on the rest of the drivers without a win, still vying to get into the playoffs. Ryan Blaney and Martin Truex Jr. are currently in a fight for their lives for that spot, separated by just 19 points. Truex, though, enters this race with perhaps the upper hand, having won Richmond’s fall race two out of the last three years, and he led 80 laps before finishing fourth in the spring.

The Federated Auto Parts 400 begins at 3 p.m. ET with coverage on USA Network and streaming on fuboTV (try for free).
