What Does the Porsche Warranty Cover? (2022 Full Guide) – MarketWatch

The Porsche warranty spans 4 years/50,000 miles, which isn’t long enough to protect most older models. If you’re not ready to part ways with your aging Porsche, consider the reliability of the company’s vehicles, along with your extended warranty options.

The J.D. Power 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM suggests that Porsche typically builds reliable cars. Porsche owners face an average of 162 problems per 100 vehicles, making it the seventh most dependable brand out of 32 in the study.

Ratings from RepairPal paint the exact opposite picture. Here, Porsche earns a below-average reliability score of 2.0 out of 5.0. In fact, Porsche ranks 32nd of 32 brands on RepairPal, and the site says you’ll likely pay steep rates for vehicle repairs and maintenance. While the average annual vehicle maintenance and repair cost is $652, Porsche owners pay an average of $1,192 per year to maintain their cars.

We reached out to Porsche for comment on its poor reliability scores from RepairPal but did not receive a response.

While dependability data from J.D. Power seems strong, it’s hard to look past Porsche’s subpar performance on RepairPal. It’s likely that an extended Porsche warranty could save drivers considerable money and decrease the hassle that comes from a mechanical breakdown.

Porsche Extended Warranty

You’ll find two main types of plans for Porsche Vehicle Service Protection, which is the name of the automaker’s extended warranty coverage. The Platinum plan offers relatively extensive protection, while the powertrain option takes care of only the components that make your car run.

The extended Porsche warranty can last for up to 10 years/100,000 miles, allowing drivers to receive long-lasting coverage on older models. The deductible is either $100 or $250 per claim, depending on the plan you choose.

Below, we’ll explain the key differences between the two versions of the extended Porsche warranty. You can buy a plan at the time of purchase or lease, or later if the vehicle is still covered under the new vehicle limited warranty.

Platinum Coverage

  • Protects your complete powertrain along with the air conditioning and climate control systems, shocks, suspension, fuel system, electrical system, steering and brakes
  • Comes at a much higher price than powertrain coverage

Powertrain Coverage

  • Only takes care of critical components such as the engine, transmission, drive axle and all seals and gaskets
  • Costs significantly less than Platinum coverage

These extended Porsche warranties come with perks such as 24/7 roadside assistance, towing coverage, rental car reimbursement and trip interruption benefits. Your contract can also be transferred to a new owner for a $50 fee.

Even if the extended Porsche warranty sounds like a good fit for your vehicle, it’s smart to consider independent warranty companies as well. Many third-party extended warranty plans offer similar coverage at more reasonable rates.
